# Connect Sage to your AI tools

Sage is a voice coaching app for iPhone. Give an AI tool Sage's address, sign in with Apple, and it can draw on the person's own sessions. Rendered version: https://api.sage.contact/docs/connect

## In short

- Give your AI tool Sage's address, below. Nothing to install, no API key.
- Sign in with the Apple Account used for Sage, and choose what the tool may read.
- From then on it can draw on the sessions: what the person has been working through, what they intended, what they value.

## Sage's address

## Add it to your tool

- Claude and ChatGPT: in Settings, find Connectors (Claude) or MCP servers (ChatGPT), add one, name it "Sage", paste the address, connect. Keep what the app detects; add no headers.
- Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Gemini CLI and other agents: paste the address into the chat and ask "Add this MCP server as Sage and connect to it." The tool sets itself up.

Either way Sage's page opens: Sign in with Apple with the account used in the app, choose what the tool may read, tap Allow. No phone needed.

## What it may read

| Access | What the tool can read | Default |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Profile & values (`profile`) | Name, language, time zone, and the five core values | On |
| Session notes (`notes`) | Each session's title, insights, intentions, where it was, and anything the person wrote themselves | On |
| Transcripts (`transcripts`) | Word for word, what the person and Sage said | Off |

Read, and only read: a connected tool cannot add, change or delete anything in Sage. Every read is listed in the app under Settings › Connected AI tools, where the person can narrow its access or disconnect it at any time.

## What to ask

- "Planning meeting with Priya in an hour. Anything from my Sage sessions I should keep in mind?"
- "What did I intend to do after my last session? Put each one on my calendar."
- "Start my weekly review from what I talked through with Sage this week."
- "Which of my core values does this decision touch?"

A personal assistant can also use this on its own, so what it does for the person follows what they have reached clarity on.

## The tools, and what each reads

| Tool | What it reads | Example prompt |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `get_recent_context` | Who the person is, their core values, and the notes from their latest sessions, in one read. Start here. | What have I been working through with Sage lately? |
| `get_profile` | Name, language, time zone, how long they have used Sage. | What does Sage call me? |
| `get_values` | The five core values from the values exercise. | Which of my values does this decision touch? |
| `list_sessions` | Sessions by date: id, title, when, how long. Filters: `limit`, `before`, `after`. | When was my last session about work? |
| `search` | Sessions whose notes (and transcripts, if shared) mention something. | Find the sessions where I talked about Jordan. |
| `get_session_notes` | The notes of one session (`session_id`) or up to twenty (`session_ids`): title, each insight with its short lines beneath, and intentions, as the person last edited them. | Summarize my intentions from this month's sessions. |
| `get_transcript` | One session, word for word. Only with the `transcripts` scope; otherwise it says so. | What exactly did Sage ask me on Thursday? |

## For agents

- Server: `https://api.sage.contact/mcp`. MCP over Streamable HTTP, stateless: each request is one POST with a JSON-RPC message. Protocol versions 2025-06-18, 2025-03-26, 2024-11-05.
- Auth: OAuth 2.1 with PKCE and dynamic client registration. No API key, no client secret, no custom headers. Metadata at https://api.sage.contact/.well-known/oauth-protected-resource and https://api.sage.contact/.well-known/oauth-authorization-server. An unauthenticated request gets 401 with a WWW-Authenticate challenge pointing there.
- Scopes: `profile`, `notes`, `transcripts` (off unless the person turns it on). Every tool is listed either way; one outside the grant answers with a message saying so. If access is missing, tell the person it can be turned on in Sage under Settings › Connected AI tools rather than retrying.
- Use: start with `get_recent_context`. Every tool is read-only. Past the per-connection budget of requests per minute, 429 with Retry-After.
- What is read is private: use it only to help this person, quote it sparingly, never store or forward it.
